Convert UTF8 to Binary

Encode text as UTF-8 bytes shown in hexadecimal and binary

Last updated: October 14, 2026

How it works
  • Each character is encoded with TextEncoder to ensure UTF-8 correctness.
  • Bytes are displayed in both hex (0x##) and binary (8 bits).
  • Spaces are labeled explicitly so you can distinguish blanks.
Tips
  • Use shorter snippets for visibility; long text accumulates lots of bits.
  • Copy the breakdown to share with teammates or debugging logs.
  • Clear the input before starting another conversion.

Convert text to UTF-8 binary

Enter text and select Convert to binary. The tool uses the browser's TextEncoder to encode each Unicode code point as UTF-8 bytes. For each character it shows the hexadecimal bytes and the same bytes as eight-bit binary groups. A combined binary string and copy action are also provided.

Reading the output

UTF-8 uses one to four bytes per Unicode code point. For example, an ASCII letter uses one byte, while many accented and emoji characters use multiple bytes. The spaces between groups separate bytes; they are not part of the binary value.

Encoding limits and privacy

This is a byte encoding display, not a character-to-single-byte conversion. A lone UTF-16 surrogate is replaced by TextEncoder with the Unicode replacement character before encoding. Conversion happens in your browser; the text is not sent to our servers.
