Average Time Calculator
Average a list of durations in HH:MM:SS or MM:SS
Last updated: September 16, 2026
Durations, not times of day. Formats: HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, seconds, optional milliseconds (01:10.250).
How to use
- Paste durations one per line or separated by commas. Mix HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, seconds, and milliseconds.
- This averages elapsed time (a lap, a job, a video), not clock times of day.
- The example 01:30:00 and 00:45:00 averages to 01:07:30.

What this calculator averages
It averages durations: lap times, job lengths, video runtimes. It does not find the midpoint between two clock times of day.
Formula
- Convert each duration to milliseconds.
- Average = (sum of milliseconds) / count.
- Convert that mean back to HH:MM:SS, with milliseconds if they are non-zero.
Worked example
Input:
01:30:00
00:45:00
01:30:00 is 5400 seconds. 00:45:00 is 2700 seconds. Mean = 4050 sec>01:07:30.

FAQ
- How do I average minutes and seconds?
- Enter each duration as MM:SS or HH:MM:SS, one per line or separated by commas. 1:30 and 45:00 are one minute thirty seconds and forty-five minutes.
- Does this average clock times of day?
- No. It averages durations (how long something took). 10:00:00 plus 15:00:00 is treated as 10 hours and 15 hours, not 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Can I include milliseconds?
- Yes. Use a dot, for example 00:01:10.250. The average keeps millisecond precision when any input has a fraction.
- What formula does it use?
- Each time is converted to milliseconds, summed, and divided by the number of entries. The result is converted back to HH:MM:SS.
